Editorial Services for Commercial Middle Grade, Young Adult, and Adult Fiction
Welcome to my Editorial Services
You have written a novel and are wondering, "What now"?
You found an old manuscript in your drawer and are thinking about taking another shot at it? You're contemplating your next steps, maybe even self-publishing? This may be the time to consider hiring a freelance editor. A professional editor can help you take your manuscript to the next level and turn it into the best version it can be before you pursue the submission process or self-publication.
Why should you invest in an edit?
A professional editor can point out the strengths and weaknesses of your manuscript, and give you objective and specific feedback on how to polish your story and writing. Agents often receive dozens (if not hundreds) of submissions each week, so they usually don’t have the time to explain the reasons for a rejection. If you have received rejections and don't know where you've gone wrong, I can help you pinpoint those problem areas and offer ideas to make your sample pages or full manuscript sparkle.
If you're planning to pursue self-publishing, you are responsible for ensuring your manuscript is the best version it can be before you make it available for purchase and risk your reader's disappointment. This should always include at least one round of content editing, one round of style editing, and one round of proofreading. Even if there aren't any major story flaws; there's always a chance of small inconsistencies or plot holes hiding in your manuscript that you, as the writer, may be blind to.
While family and friends are wonderful supporters, they often lack the distance and objectivity needed when it comes to meaningful and trustworthy feedback. So while writing-group companions and unbiased beta readers are invaluable, do not understimate the value of a professional editor with industry experience.
I'm a Germany-based literary agent-turned-editor who realized that helping authors make their work shine is way more rewarding than having to send out rejections on a daily basis. I've been editing part-time since 2015 and full-time since January 2017. Editing gives me the feeling to contribute to a writer's journey in a positive and encouraging way, and it's such a privilege to support writers on their road to (self-) publication. As a former literary agent I know what it takes to get a manuscript in shape for agents, editors, and readers. I can identify plot and writing issues, give you objective and constructive feedback, and offer you my helping hand on your journey to publication.
I'm extremely passionate about well-crafted stories, compelling characters, and engaging writing, and I specialize in editing commercial Middle Grade, Young Adult, and Adult Fiction.
I hold Masters of Arts in "Communication Studies", "Creative Writing", and "Book Publishing", and my five years as a very hands-on editorial literary agent have helped me develop an eye for detail as well as the skill to identify problem areas of a manuscript and plot inconsistencies. I thrive on improving other people's stories and writing, and know how to get your manuscript in shape without compromising your voice.
My comments and editorial feedback will not only help make your current manuscript stronger, but – implemented in future projects – also stay with you over the course of your entire writing career. So it really is money well invested.
Let me dive deep into your story, help you avoid certain writing and plotting pitfalls, and give you the necessary tools to make more conscious plot and style choices.
